Software for people whose tax situation crosses a border.
Fortenberry Labs is an Arizona software company. We build tools for people who move between countries, and for the tax questions that follow them.
01
What we make
Wheredaysâ„¢
A record of where you actually were, day by day, and how that record measures against the residency tests that apply to you. For US citizens living abroad and long-term travelers, and for anyone tracking days against the countries it covers.
In development
A second product is in early development. We will name it when there is something to show.
02
How we build
The rules inside our software are written from each jurisdiction's own official sources, and in a fixed order.
01 The statute
02 The regulations
03 The tax authority's own rulings and technical manuals
04 The form instructions
05 Official publications, for worked examples rather than as authority
Where those sources do not answer a question, and often they do not, the software says so instead of guessing, and takes the reading that cannot create a penalty.
That is slower than shipping a day counter. It is the only way to build something a person can rely on at the point it matters.
03
Who builds it
The company was founded by an experienced cross-border tax practitioner, and our software comes out of that work rather than out of a general purpose app studio.
It is also why we draw a line, and draw it carefully. Fortenberry Labs makes software. It does not prepare returns and it does not give tax advice. Where a question needs a professional, the software says so and stops.
